Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay on Official India Visit from September 3 to 6

Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, accompanied by his wife Aum Tashi Doma and Bhutan’s Chief Abbot, Je Khenpo Trulku Jigme Choedra, will embark on an official visit to India from September 3 to 6, according to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday.

The visit will commence on September 4 with the consecration ceremony of the Royal Bhutan Temple in Rajgir, Bihar. Constructed on land granted by the Bihar government, the temple serves as a symbol of the deep-rooted spiritual and cultural ties grounded in Buddhism between India and Bhutan.

On September 5, Prime Minister Tobgay will visit Ayodhya, where he will receive a ceremonial welcome before offering prayers at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. According to District Magistrate Nikhil Tikaram Funde, Tobgay is expected to arrive around 9:30 a.m., attend a special lunch, and depart later in the afternoon.

While in New Delhi, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will meet with the visiting Bhutanese leader. The official visit will conclude on September 6.

This marks PM Tobgay’s second visit to India in 2025. Earlier, in February, he participated in the inaugural Leadership Conclave hosted by the School of Ultimate Leadership (SOUL), which was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During that trip, Tobgay also held meetings with PM Modi and other senior Indian officials, including Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita.

At the conclave, Tobgay referred to PM Modi as his “mentor and elder brother,” praising his leadership and stating that their interactions motivated him to enhance his service to the public.

The MEA emphasized that these successive visits reflect the robust and enduring partnership between India and Bhutan, marked by mutual trust, goodwill, and frequent high-level engagement.
