External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Kuwait today for a day-long visit, where he will engage in discussions with the Kuwaiti leadership on a range of issues concerning India-Kuwait bilateral relations. Upon his arrival, Jaishankar met his counterpart Foreign minister of Kuwait, Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya. This visit will provide an opportunity for both countries to review various facets of their bilateral relationship, including political, trade, investment, energy, security, cultural, and consular matters, as well as people-to-people ties.
Additionally, they will exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern. The situation in Gaza is also expected to be a topic of discussion during Jaishankar’s meetings. Kuwait has recently expressed support for a ceasefire initiative in Gaza, proposed by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar. Last week, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry affirmed its backing for efforts aimed at halting the aggression in Gaza. This visit of EAM comes almost two months after a tragic fire in Kuwait’s Mangaf district claimed the lives of 45 Indian nationals. In total, 49 foreign workers were killed, and 50 others were injured in the devastating fire at a seven-story building in June.
