India and Egypt Discuss Possibility of Establishing Joint Projects to Support Increased Local Production of Vaccines and Medicines

The Ambassador of the Republic of India to Cairo, Suresh K. Reddy, met with the Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel GhaffarThe Ambassador of the Republic of India to Cairo, Suresh K. Reddy, met with the Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, on Monday to discuss ways to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries in the fields of healthcare, pharmaceutical technology, and vaccine production.

Indian Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy expressed his appreciation for the fruitful cooperation with Egypt, praising its pioneering role in the health sector in Africa.

The Ambassador affirmed India's keenness to strengthen the strategic partnership with Egypt in the fields of pharmaceutical technology and vaccine production, which supports health security and achieves sustainable development goals.

For his part, the Egyptian Minister of Health welcomed the Indian Ambassador, praising the close relations between Egypt and India and expressing his aspiration to expand bilateral cooperation to contribute to enhancing health security and achieving the well-being of the people of both countries.

During the meeting, current and future plans for cooperation in the fields of healthcare and technology were discussed, with a focus on partnership opportunities between Indian companies and Egyptian factories and companies. The meeting also witnessed an exchange of expertise in vaccine and pharmaceutical production, with the possibility of establishing joint projects that support the African Union's drive to increase local production of vaccines and medicines being explored.

Developments in the partnership between the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (Vacsera) and the Serum Institute of India were also reviewed, emphasizing the possibility of expanding cooperation with Indian pharmaceutical companies.

During the meeting, the Egyptian Minister of Health invited the Indian side to attend the third edition of the International Conference on Population and Development, scheduled to be held in November 2025. He also invited the Indian Minister of Health, the Indian Ambassador, and representatives of Indian companies to visit pharmaceutical and vaccine factories in Egypt to explore opportunities for joint cooperation.
