India and Singapore Unveil Strategic Roadmap to Deepen Ties
During an official visit to New Delhi, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to discuss the future of India–Singapore relations. Following the meeting, PM Modi announced that both nations have agreed on a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen their strategic partnership across multiple sectors.
This roadmap marks a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries, expanding their cooperation into emerging fields like advanced manufacturing, green shipping, and civil nuclear energy, while continuing to build on traditional areas such as trade, investment, and defense.
PM Modi described the roadmap as “ambitious and forward-looking,” aimed at harnessing the strengths of both nations to support sustainable and inclusive growth. He also highlighted Singapore’s key role in India’s ‘Act East’ policy, underlining its strategic importance in India’s regional and global outreach.
One of the key announcements from the meeting was the decision to collaborate on a new National Centre of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing in Chennai. This center will help upskill workers, drive innovation, and promote industrial collaboration between Indian and Singaporean companies.
On the green shipping front, the two countries will work together on developing eco-friendly maritime solutions, including cleaner fuel alternatives and digital port logistics. This initiative reflects both countries’ commitment to addressing climate change and making their transport sectors more sustainable.
In the energy domain, Singapore and India also explored civil nuclear cooperation, with a focus on knowledge-sharing and potential technology partnerships to support clean energy goals.
Additionally, the two leaders witnessed the virtual inauguration of the second phase of the PSA-operated terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port, set to become India’s largest container terminal. This development reflects the growing logistics and infrastructure collaboration between the two nations.
PM Lawrence Wong echoed Modi’s sentiments, stating that Singapore sees great potential in partnering with India across digital, energy, infrastructure, and industrial domains.
With this detailed roadmap in place, India and Singapore are now set to take their long-standing partnership to new heights—driven by innovation, sustainability, and strategic cooperation.
