India – Guyana Ties Gather Momentum as Vice-Presidents Hold Talks in New Delhi

In a significant step toward deepening bilateral engagement, Vice-President of Guyana Bharrat Jagdeo called on the Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan at Uprashtrapati Bhavan today. The high-level meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both nations to strengthen cooperation across a wide spectrum of sectors.

Expanding a Dynamic Partnership

The two leaders reviewed the steady progress in India–Guyana relations and explored avenues to further enhance collaboration in trade, energy, agriculture, capacity building, healthcare, and digital technology. As fellow democracies with strong people-to-people ties, India and Guyana continue to build a partnership rooted in mutual respect and development-oriented cooperation.

Both sides emphasized the importance of translating political goodwill into tangible outcomes, particularly in areas that directly benefit citizens.

Appreciation for India’s Digital Transformation

During the discussions, Dr. Jagdeo appreciated the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and acknowledged India’s rapid strides in digital governance and financial inclusion. He highlighted the transformative impact of India’s Unified Payments Interface (Unified Payments Interface) in expanding access to secure, low-cost digital transactions.

The two sides discussed the possibility of adapting similar digital public infrastructure models in Guyana, particularly to enhance financial inclusion, streamline public services, and support small businesses. India’s experience in leveraging technology for inclusive growth was viewed as a potential template for collaboration.

Strengthening South–South Cooperation

The meeting also underscored the importance of South–South cooperation and knowledge sharing. India reiterated its readiness to support Guyana through capacity-building initiatives, technical assistance, and digital innovation partnerships.

As Guyana continues its economic expansion, especially in energy and infrastructure development, closer engagement with India’s technological and institutional expertise could open new pathways for sustainable growth.

The interaction between the two Vice-Presidents reflected a clear resolve to elevate India -Guyana ties to a more dynamic and outcome-oriented partnership.
