India – Iceland Talks Boost Green Cooperation and Strategic Ties
India and Iceland reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations during the 4th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in Reykjavik, marking another significant step in their steadily evolving partnership. The discussions reflected a shared vision to expand cooperation in areas aligned with sustainability, innovation, and global collaboration.
The consultations were co-chaired by Sibi George, Secretary (West) in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and Martin Eyjolfsson, Permanent Secretary of State in Iceland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Held in a constructive and forward-looking atmosphere, the meeting reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral ties and explored new opportunities for engagement.
Driving Sustainable and Economic Cooperation
A key highlight of the consultations was the emphasis on expanding collaboration in renewable and clean energy, particularly geothermal energy, where Iceland has global expertise. India, with its large-scale energy needs and climate commitments, presents significant opportunities for partnership in this domain. Both sides also discussed cooperation in fisheries, marine resources, and sustainable technologies, reflecting a convergence of interests in environmentally responsible development.
Economic engagement also featured prominently, with both countries exploring ways to strengthen trade and investment flows. The discussions acknowledged the potential impact of the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) in facilitating deeper economic integration, technology exchange, and business collaboration between India and Iceland.

Beyond bilateral cooperation, the consultations provided a platform to exchange views on regional and global developments, including issues related to Europe, the Arctic, and broader geopolitical trends.
