India celebrated its 77th Republic Day on 26 January 2026 with immense pride, patriotism, and unity. This historic day marks the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950, transforming the nation into a sovereign, democratic republic. Republic Day is not only a reminder of India’s rich history but also a celebration of its democratic values, progress, and diversity.

The main ceremony was held at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, where President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, unfurled the national flag and took the salute during the grand parade. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid tribute to the fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial earlier in the day. This year, the celebrations were held under the inspiring theme “Vande Mataram”, reflecting devotion to the motherland and the spirit of patriotism. The theme was vividly portrayed in the tableaux, cultural performances, and parade contingents.

The event also welcomed distinguished Chief Guests, Ms. Ursula von der Leyen and Mr. António Costa, symbolizing India’s strong diplomatic ties and global stature. Their presence highlighted India’s commitment to fostering international cooperation while celebrating its own culture and achievements.

A grand showcase of India’s military strength and cultural diversity was the highlight of the parade. The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force marched in perfect synchrony, while the Air Force flypast wowed the audience. Tableaux from various states and union territories depicted India’s heritage, development initiatives, and social progress. In particular, the Assam tableau captivated viewers with its vibrant display of Bihu dance, the Brahmaputra River, lush tea gardens, and Assam’s wildlife, showcasing the state’s cultural richness and contribution to India’s unity.

This year, the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, was conferred by President Droupadi Murmu on Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla for his extraordinary courage and achievement as the first Indian to visit the International Space Station under the Axiom‑4 mission. Alongside him, gallantry awards were approved for 70 Armed Forces personnel, recognizing exceptional bravery and devotion to duty.

Across the country, Republic Day was celebrated in schools, colleges, government offices, and local communities with flag hoisting, patriotic songs, speeches, and cultural programs. Citizens reflected on the nation’s journey, honoring freedom fighters and renewing their commitment to constitutional values.

The 77th India’s Republic Day was a spectacular celebration of patriotism, unity, and democracy. From the grandeur of the parade to the inspiring theme of “Vande Mataram”, it reminded every Indian to honor the Constitution, respect the sacrifices of the past, and work together for a prosperous, inclusive, and strong India.
