India Welcomes Progress at US-Russia Alaska Summit, Stresses Need for Dialogue in Ukraine Conflict

India on Saturday expressed its support for the progress achieved at the Alaska Summit between the United States and Russia, reaffirming its belief that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable route to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

In a statement, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “India welcomes the Summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Their leadership in the pursuit of peace is deeply commendable.”

He continued, “India appreciates the positive developments at the Summit. The only way forward is through dialogue and diplomacy. The world is eager for an end to the conflict in Ukraine.”

India has consistently underscored that diplomatic engagement is the key to resolving the crisis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for peace—highlighting that “this is not an era of war” during the 2022 G20 Summit in Bali, in the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict—has been echoed on various international platforms and in joint statements globally.

On Friday, the United States and Russia wrapped up the highly anticipated Alaska Summit, which focused on efforts to bring peace to Ukraine.

In a post on Truth Social, the US President called it a “great and very successful day in Alaska” and emphasized that a “peace agreement” would be the best path forward.
