PM Modi Receives Namibia’s Highest Civilian Award on State Visit

During his one-day state visit to Namibia on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the country’s highest civilian honour, ‘The Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis’.

Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah presented the award to Prime Minister Modi during a special ceremony, symbolizing a significant milestone in the strengthening of bilateral relations.

Upon receiving the honour, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep gratitude, dedicating the award to the 1.4 billion citizens of India and the longstanding friendship between India and Namibia. “I accept this honour with heartfelt appreciation and dedicate it to the people of India and the enduring bond between our two nations,” he said, thanking President Nandi-Ndaitwah and the people of Namibia.

PM Modi is the first Indian leader to receive this honour.

Instituted in 1995, the award honours exceptional leadership and service. It is named after the Welwitschia Mirabilis, a rare desert plant native to Namibia, symbolizing resilience, longevity, and the enduring spirit of the Namibian people.

This marks Prime Minister Modi’s 27th international accolade, his fourth award during the current five-nation tour, and the second received within less than 24 hours.
