Strengthening Ties: India, Egypt Hold Bilateral Talks on Advancing Healthcare, Medical Innovation and Genetic Disease Treatment

Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Cairo, met with Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egyptian General Healthcare Authority, to discuss areas of joint cooperation in the areas of universal health coverage, e-health, clinical research, and a number of other strategic areas.
During the meeting, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egyptian General Healthcare Authority, emphasized that the strong and established relations between the political leadership in Egypt and India have created a supportive environment for enhancing cooperation in various healthcare fields. He noted that Egypt represents Asia’s gateway to African markets, thanks to its strategic location and leading role on the continent.
He added that the Authority aims to localize robotic surgery technologies and smart primary care models within its healthcare facilities through partnerships with major Indian healthcare institutions, most notably Apollo Hospitals and Aster Group. This will contribute to the transfer of modern technology and the improvement of the quality of services provided to citizens.
For his part, Indian Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy emphasized that Egypt represents an important regional hub for expansion into Africa in the fields of health and medical technology. The ambassador invited the Egyptian side to visit India to learn about India’s pioneering experience in achieving universal health coverage. He emphasized that his country seeks to build a long-term partnership with the Authority to share successful models, enhance the efficiency of health services, and open new horizons for emerging markets.

Reddy noted that the Egyptian market is promising for attracting more Indian companies specializing in technology and healthcare, especially given the rapid development of relations between the two countries and the great potential for cooperation in the fields of health and technological innovation.
Participating from the Indian Embassy in Cairo were: Rafi Praveen Singh, First Secretary for Economics and Trade and Commercial Representative at the Embassy, and AsadZuberi, Third Secretary for Trade and Economics.
