Trump Confirms China Trade Deal, Hints at Upcoming ‘Big’ Trade Deal with India

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday (US local time) that a trade agreement has been signed with China and suggested that a “very big” deal with India could be on the way.

Trump made the remarks while speaking at the Big Beautiful Bill event.

In his speech alluding to upcoming trade agreements, Trump stated, “Everyone wants to make a deal and be involved. A few months ago, the press questioned if there was any real interest. Well, we just signed a deal with China yesterday. We are securing some excellent agreements. We have another one coming up, possibly with India—a very significant deal—where we plan to open up India, just as we are beginning to open up China through the China deal.”

Trump asserted that deals will not be made with every other nation.

“We’re not going to make deals with everyone. For some, we’ll simply send a letter saying, ‘Thank you very much, you’ll pay 25, 35, or 45 percent tariffs.’ That’s the easy approach, but my team prefers to negotiate more deals. They want to make more agreements than I would personally pursue,” he said.

“But we’re closing some great deals. We have another one on the horizon, possibly with India—a very significant agreement where we plan to open up India, just as we are beginning to open up China through the China deal. These are developments that wouldn’t have been possible before, and our relationships with every country have been very positive,” he added.

Speaking at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum earlier this month, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick expressed optimism that a trade deal between India and the United States may be finalized soon, noting that both sides are working toward a mutually agreeable framework.

Speaking at a press conference on the India–U.S. trade deal and a potential future agreement with the European Union, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Trump met in February 2025 and agreed to pursue a bilateral trade agreement that will benefit both economies, businesses, and citizens. We are working towards a fair, balanced, and equitable deal aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and promoting business.”

Emphasizing the strong ties between the two nations, Piyush Goyal described the U.S. and India as “close friends, allies, and strategic partners,” adding that the trade deal presents a key opportunity to deepen bilateral trade and further solidify their partnership.
