India and Slovenia Strengthen Bilateral Engagement at UNGA81

Jaishankar-Kajzer meeting highlights opportunities for deeper cooperation in trade, technology and Europe-India relations

India and Slovenia reviewed their bilateral relationship during a meeting between External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Slovenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Tone Kajzer, on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the two foreign ministers to exchange views on bilateral cooperation as well as developments of shared interest. Engagements on the margins of the UN General Assembly have become an important platform for India to maintain dialogue with European partners on political, economic and multilateral priorities.

India and Slovenia have developed relations across areas including trade and investment, science and technology, education, tourism and cultural exchanges. Slovenia’s position within Central Europe and its membership of the European Union also provide opportunities for strengthening India’s broader engagement with European markets and institutions.

Economic cooperation remains an important component of the relationship. Greater engagement between businesses and institutions in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, information technology, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy and logistics can contribute to expanding commercial ties.

The two countries also share an interest in strengthening cooperation through multilateral platforms. Dialogue at the United Nations provides scope for coordination on issues including sustainable development, climate action, international peace and security, and reform of multilateral institutions.

The Jaishankar–Kajzer meeting comes as India continues to deepen its engagement with European countries amid changing global economic and geopolitical dynamics. Slovenia, as an EU member and an active participant in European and multilateral affairs, represents an important partner for India’s expanding European outreach.

The meeting in New York underscores the importance of sustained high-level dialogue in advancing India–Slovenia relations and identifying new avenues for cooperation in trade, technology, investment, people-to-people exchanges and multilateral diplomacy.
