India–UAE Strategic Partnership: A Renewed Diplomatic Momentum in a Changing West Asia
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s visit to Abu Dhabi underscores the growing depth of bilateral engagement, economic ambitions and shared commitment to regional stability.
India’s diplomatic engagement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) received fresh momentum during the official visit of Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri to the UAE on 1–2 November 2026. The visit underscored the growing importance of the India–UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and reflected the shared determination of both countries to expand cooperation amid an evolving regional and international landscape.
A key highlight of the visit was Foreign Secretary Misri’s meeting with H.E. Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Special Envoy to India. The discussions provided an opportunity to review the full spectrum of bilateral relations, explore avenues for further strengthening the strategic partnership and exchange perspectives on the situation in West Asia and global issues of mutual interest.
The engagement reflects the maturity of a relationship that has steadily evolved beyond traditional trade and energy cooperation into a multidimensional partnership encompassing investment, defence, technology, connectivity, renewable energy, education and cultural exchanges.
The economic dimension remains particularly significant. The India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which entered into force in May 2022, has provided fresh impetus to bilateral commerce and investment. Both countries are also exploring opportunities to deepen financial cooperation, encourage business partnerships and strengthen institutional engagement.
During the visit, Foreign Secretary Misri also engaged with senior UAE officials, including Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak and Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi. Discussions touched upon cultural cooperation, tourism, investment opportunities and stronger commercial linkages. The proposed House of India in Abu Dhabi also reflects the growing importance of cultural diplomacy in bringing the two societies closer.
The regional dimension of the visit was equally important. With West Asia facing complex geopolitical challenges, India and the UAE have a shared interest in peace, stability, maritime security and uninterrupted international trade. Regular diplomatic consultations enable both sides to exchange assessments and coordinate their perspectives on developments affecting regional and global stability.
India and the UAE share more than diplomatic goodwill; they are connected through deep economic interdependence, a vibrant Indian diaspora and converging strategic interests.
Foreign Secretary Misri’s visit therefore represents more than a routine diplomatic engagement. It reinforces a partnership built on trust, mutual respect and shared aspirations, positioning India and the UAE as important partners in shaping a more connected, prosperous and stable future.
