India and Lesotho Strengthen Strategic Partnership at Sixth Joint Bilateral Commission Meeting
India and the Kingdom of Lesotho have taken another significant step toward strengthening their longstanding partnership, reaffirming their shared commitment to expanding cooperation across a broad range of sectors during the sixth meeting of the India–Lesotho Joint Bilateral Commission for Cooperation (JBCC), held in New Delhi on July 30.
The high-level meeting was co-chaired by Janesh Kain, Joint Secretary (East & Southern Africa) in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and Thabang P. Lekhela, Principal Secretary in Lesotho’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations. The discussions reflected the growing momentum in bilateral relations and the desire of both nations to build a more dynamic and future-oriented partnership.
During the dialogue, officials reviewed progress in existing areas of cooperation while identifying fresh opportunities to deepen engagement in trade, investment, agriculture, healthcare, education, information technology, renewable energy, and capacity building. Both sides emphasized the importance of translating their strong political goodwill into tangible economic and developmental outcomes.
India reaffirmed its continued support for Lesotho’s development through training programmes, educational scholarships, and technical cooperation initiatives. Capacity-building efforts under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme remain a cornerstone of India’s partnership with Lesotho, equipping professionals with valuable skills and strengthening institutional links between the two countries.
The meeting also served as a platform to exchange perspectives on regional and international developments, highlighting the value both nations place on multilateral cooperation and regular diplomatic engagement. Officials agreed that sustained dialogue through the Joint Bilateral Commission would continue to play a vital role in advancing common priorities and exploring new avenues of collaboration.
India and Lesotho have enjoyed cordial diplomatic relations for decades, built on mutual respect, development cooperation, and shared aspirations for inclusive growth.
