India and Armenia Strengthen Defence Cooperation with Focus on Training and Technology
New Delhi and Yerevan explore new opportunities in capacity building, military-technical cooperation and defence research
India and Armenia are seeking to further strengthen their bilateral defence relationship, with cooperation in training, capacity building, military-technical engagement and defence research and development receiving particular attention during high-level discussions in Yerevan.
Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh visited Armenia from August 17 to 18 and held meetings with senior Armenian defence officials to review ongoing cooperation and discuss opportunities for expanding bilateral engagement.
High-Level Defence Discussions
During the two-day visit, Singh met Armenian Deputy Defence Minister Karen Brutyan and First Deputy Defence Minister and Chief of General Staff Edward Asryan.
The meetings provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss the broad range of existing defence cooperation and identify areas where bilateral engagement can be further developed.
Focus on Capacity Building and Training
Capacity building and training were among the key areas discussed. Greater exchanges of expertise and professional training can contribute to strengthening institutional capabilities and creating deeper links between the defence establishments of the two countries.
Such cooperation also provides opportunities for sharing experiences and best practices in areas of mutual interest.
Expanding Military-Technical Cooperation
The two sides also discussed military-technical cooperation, an area that offers scope for greater technical engagement and knowledge sharing.
As defence requirements and technologies continue to evolve, cooperation in technical fields can create opportunities for both countries to develop stronger professional and institutional partnerships.
Encouraging Defence Research and Innovation
Defence research and development was another important component of the discussions. Cooperation in R&D can encourage exchanges between experts and institutions while supporting innovation and the development of relevant defence capabilities.
For India, such engagement also complements its broader approach of strengthening international defence partnerships through technology, training and capacity development.
Building a Long-Term Partnership
The latest visit reflects the steady development of India-Armenia defence relations and the shared interest in expanding practical cooperation.
By placing emphasis on training, capacity building, technical cooperation and research, India and Armenia are creating additional avenues for long-term engagement and professional exchange.
The discussions in Yerevan underline the two countries’ commitment to maintaining regular dialogue and strengthening their defence partnership through mutually beneficial cooperation.
