PM Modi Graces Maldives’ 60th Independence Day as Guest of Honour
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 60th anniversary celebrations of Maldives’ independence as the Guest of Honour during his visit to Malé on July 26. This marked a historic occasion—the first time an Indian Prime Minister has participated in the Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations, and the first time President Mohammed Muizzu has hosted a visiting Head of State or Government.
Alongside President Muizzu, Prime Minister Modi witnessed a vibrant Independence Day parade at Republic Square, featuring the Maldivian National Defence Force and various local units. The visit also holds added significance as it aligns with the upcoming 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and the Maldives in 2025.
Prime Minister Modi’s presence as Guest of Honour highlights the enduring partnership and growing cooperation between the two nations.
