Dr. Hifzur Rahman Appointed as India’s Ambassador to Libya
India has appointed Dr. Hifzur Rahman as the next Ambassador to the State of Libya, marking an important step in New Delhi’s efforts to deepen diplomatic engagement in North Africa. His assignment comes at a time when India is re-establishing a stronger presence in Libya after years of political instability in the country.
A seasoned diplomat with extensive experience across African and Middle Eastern postings, Dr. Rahman is expected to play a key role in advancing India’s political and economic ties with Libya. His leadership will also help strengthen coordination with Libyan authorities and support India’s broader outreach to the region.
The appointment is particularly significant for ensuring comprehensive consular services for Indian nationals working and residing in Libya. A resident ambassador will enhance India’s ability to engage more proactively on issues related to citizen welfare, mobility, and emerging opportunities in the Libyan market.
On the bilateral front, Dr. Rahman’s tenure is likely to focus on revitalising cooperation in areas such as energy, trade, infrastructure development, and capacity-building, as well as identifying new avenues for partnership as Libya continues its process of stabilisation and reconstruction.
