India and China have taken another step towards rebuilding bilateral ties following the official visit of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to Beijing and Tianjin from 27–29 July 2026. The visit reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to maintaining regular diplomatic dialogue while advancing cooperation in key strategic and economic sectors.

Broadening the Bilateral Agenda

During his visit, Foreign Secretary Misri held comprehensive discussions with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, reviewing the progress made since recent high-level interactions between the leadership of the two countries. The dialogue focused on strengthening political engagement, enhancing economic cooperation, and ensuring steady momentum in the overall bilateral relationship.

Trade and commerce featured prominently in the discussions, with both sides exploring measures to expand economic ties, facilitate business exchanges, and encourage greater collaboration in investment, manufacturing, and emerging sectors. The talks reflected a shared interest in creating a more predictable and constructive framework for economic engagement.

Promoting Cultural and People-to-People Ties

Recognising the importance of stronger public engagement, India and China also discussed initiatives to increase cultural exchanges, tourism, academic cooperation, and educational partnerships.
