India Stands with Nepal as Devastating Floods Trigger Humanitarian Response

India has extended solidarity and humanitarian support to Nepal following devastating flash floods that have caused widespread destruction and loss of life across parts of the Himalayan nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah and conveyed his condolences over the loss of lives. Modi assured Shah that India stands with the people of Nepal during the crisis and is ready to provide all possible humanitarian assistance. He also said Indian teams are coordinating closely on rescue and relief efforts.

The disaster has severely affected areas including Rasuwa and neighbouring districts, with flooding damaging settlements, bridges and critical infrastructure. Hundreds of people have been reported missing, including Indian nationals and other foreign visitors caught in the affected region.

India’s response has extended beyond the Prime Minister’s outreach. The Government of India has dispatched 10 tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) supplies and essential medicines to support Nepal’s emergency response. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reaffirmed that India stands with Nepal and its people during the difficult period.

President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her deepest sympathies to Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel and the people of Nepal, expressing India’s solidarity and readiness to support Nepal’s relief and rescue efforts. Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan expressed grief over the loss of lives, offered condolences to bereaved families and prayed for the safe and swift rescue of those still missing.

In Kathmandu, the Embassy of India has remained closely engaged with the Government of Nepal and relevant authorities on rescue and relief efforts, particularly concerning Indian nationals affected by the floods. The Embassy has also activated emergency contact numbers and WhatsApp assistance for Indians seeking information or support.

The coordinated response reflects the depth of India-Nepal relations, where humanitarian cooperation and people-to-people ties remain central to the partnership.

As rescue and relief operations continue, India’s message is clear: Nepal will not face this difficult hour alone.
