Egyptian Foreign Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Abdelatty praised the notable progress in Egypt-India relations in recent years, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to further advancing the strategic partnership launched in 2023 in a manner that serves the interests of the two friendly peoples.
The Egyptian minister also welcomed the outcomes of the first round of the Strategic Dialogue between the foreign ministers of Egypt and India, held in New Delhi in October 2025. He stressed the importance of building on the dialogue’s outcomes and maintaining the positive momentum in bilateral relations through increased high-level visits and regular meetings of consultation mechanisms between the two countries.
Abdelatty also underscored Egypt’s interest in expanding cooperation with India in the fields of economy, trade and investment. He highlighted efforts to increase bilateral trade to $12 billion over the next five years.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional developments and the future of regional security arrangements in light of the rapidly evolving situation in the region.
They stressed the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts and supporting political solutions to reduce tensions. Abdelatty, in particular, emphasized the need to avoid military escalation, give priority to diplomatic channels and ensure freedom of navigation.
The phone call reflects the continued momentum in Egypt-India relations and the two countries’ efforts to deepen their strategic partnership while coordinating positions on regional and international developments of common concern.
