PM Modi, Brazilian President Lula Reaffirm Strategic Ties in Phone Call

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Brazil during a telephonic conversation held on Thursday, August 7.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders reviewed ongoing bilateral cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the progress made in key sectors, including trade, energy, technology, and defense. They also discussed global and regional issues of mutual interest, underlining the importance of collaborative efforts within multilateral platforms such as BRICS, the G20, and the United Nations.

Prime Minister Modi conveyed his appreciation for President Lula’s leadership and Brazil’s active role in promoting the interests of the Global South. He reiterated India’s readiness to work closely with Brazil in advancing common goals related to sustainable development, climate action, and equitable global governance.

The leaders also touched upon preparations for upcoming multilateral engagements, including the BRICS Summit and the UN General Assembly session. Both emphasized the urgency of reforming global institutions to better reflect contemporary realities and ensure a more representative international order.

President Lula acknowledged India’s growing global influence and welcomed deeper engagement between the two countries across emerging sectors such as renewable energy, digital innovation, and space cooperation.
