Tsunami Alert After Russian Quake Prompts Advisory from Indian Consulate in San Francisco
The Consulate General of India in San Francisco stated on Wednesday that it is actively observing the situation after a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, raising concerns about a possible tsunami.
The advisory called on Indian nationals in coastal regions to comply with official directives in the event of a tsunami warning.
The Consulate of India in San Francisco posted on X that it is watching the situation closely after the 8.8 earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. It advised Indian nationals in California, other western U.S. states, and Hawaii to take the following steps:
-Follow local alerts: Carefully monitor warnings from US authorities, including local emergency management and the US Tsunami Warning Centers.
-Move to higher ground if a tsunami alert is issued.
-Avoid coastal areas.
-Prepare for emergencies and keep devices charged.

Tsunami warnings have been declared for Taiwan, the Philippines, Hawaii, the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, and parts of Indonesia, while much of the U.S. West Coast remains under advisory.
