India, Kenya Look to Expand Parliamentary Cooperation Through Digital Innovation
India and Kenya are seeking to give fresh momentum to their parliamentary partnership, with a particular focus on technology, digital transformation and institutional capacity building.
Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan held talks with Kenyan National Assembly Speaker Moses M. Wetang’ula in New Delhi on Thursday. Wetang’ula is visiting India at the head of a Kenyan parliamentary delegation.
During the meeting, Radhakrishnan underlined the long-standing links between the legislatures of the two countries and stressed the importance of sharing experiences and best practices.
Digital transformation emerged as an important area of potential cooperation. Radhakrishnan offered to share India’s experience in adopting technology for parliamentary work, including initiatives aimed at reducing dependence on physical documents and moving towards a paperless Parliament.
The discussions reflect India’s broader effort to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy with African countries while sharing its experience in digital governance and technology-driven public institutions.
For Kenya, cooperation with India could provide useful insights into the application of digital tools to improve legislative processes, accessibility and administrative efficiency.
The engagement also highlights the expanding scope of India-Kenya relations, which increasingly extends beyond traditional political and economic ties to include technology, institutional development and capacity building.
The visit by the Kenyan parliamentary delegation provides another opportunity for the two countries to strengthen their legislative exchanges and build practical cooperation based on their shared commitment to democratic institutions and development.
India’s willingness to share its digital parliamentary experience could further deepen the relationship and open new avenues for cooperation between the two legislatures.
