India, Liberia Seek New Momentum in Strategic Partnership Across Key Sectors
India and Liberia are looking to deepen bilateral engagement across technology, agriculture, healthcare, mining, energy, trade and investment, education and capacity building, as the two countries seek to expand their development and economic partnership.
Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti held bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on August 13 during her official visit to India. The discussions covered the full spectrum of India-Liberia relations, alongside regional and multilateral developments.
The talks highlighted the growing scope for cooperation in sectors that are central to Liberia’s development priorities and India’s engagement with Africa. Both sides discussed opportunities to strengthen partnerships in technology, agriculture, health, mining, energy, trade and investment, education and capacity building.
Jaishankar also congratulated Nyanti on the inauguration and opening of Liberia’s Embassy in New Delhi, describing the development as an important step towards strengthening diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
The ministers also exchanged views on cooperation in multilateral forums, particularly on peace, development and strengthening the voice of the Global South. Reformed multilateralism, including reform of the United Nations Security Council, featured prominently in the discussions.
The latest engagement builds on an expanding India-Liberia relationship that has increasingly focused on trade, investment, mining, agriculture, healthcare, education and capacity building. India’s development partnership with Liberia has also included cooperation in training and people-to-people exchanges.
With Liberia strengthening its diplomatic presence in New Delhi, the talks signal an opportunity for both countries to give fresh momentum to their economic, development and strategic cooperation, while working together to advance the interests of the Global South.
