India and OPEC Commit to Deeper Energy Cooperation at New Delhi Dialogue

New Delhi meeting underscores the importance of energy security, market stability and sustained producer-consumer dialogue

India and the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening energy cooperation, underscoring the importance of deeper collaboration between major energy producers and consumers.

The commitment came during the Seventh High-Level Meeting of the OPEC-India Energy Dialogue, held in New Delhi on September 22. The meeting was co-chaired by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais.

The discussions focused on oil market stability, energy security and the need for adequate and timely investment across the oil industry. The two sides also reviewed short-, medium- and long-term energy outlooks, highlighting India’s growing importance in global economic activity and energy demand.

Puri emphasised that India and OPEC share a complementary and mutually beneficial relationship. He stressed the importance of sustained dialogue between energy-producing and consuming nations to support investment, strengthen energy resilience and ensure reliable supplies for global growth and development.
