Global FDI Reaches $1.6 Trillion: Why Trust Is Becoming the New Competitive Advantage

As international investment flows become increasingly concentrated, diplomatic engagement, institutional confidence and long-term partnerships are emerging as important factors in attracting global capital.

As global investment reaches $1.6 trillion, trust and diplomatic engagement are gaining renewed importance in international economic relations. At a time when international investment flows are increasingly concentrated in specific countries and sectors, strong communication between diplomacy and the business community plays a critical role in fostering sustainable partnerships. Sepehr Haddad, President of Prestige Diplomatique, emphasizes that international investment depends not only on financial resources but also on mutual trust, stable relationships and long-term cooperation...

The transformation of the global economy is placing greater emphasis on international relations and trust alongside traditional economic indicators in investment decisions. According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) World Investment Report 2026, global foreign direct investment (FDI) increased by 6 percent in 2025, reaching $1.6 trillion. However, the uneven distribution of investment flows worldwide demonstrates that competition among countries extends beyond economic advantages alone.

According to the report, more than 80 percent of global foreign direct investment was concentrated in the world's 20 largest recipient economies. Meanwhile, investment flows to developing economies increased by 2 percent, reaching $901 billion. These figures bring renewed attention to the importance of predictability, institutional relationships and long-term partnerships in international capital flows.

TÜRKİYE ATTRACTS $13.1 BILLION IN FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT

Türkiye continues to stand out as a destination for international investment. According to figures released by the Investment and Finance Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, foreign direct investment inflows into Türkiye increased by 12.2 percent in 2025 compared with the previous year, reaching $13.1 billion. The distribution of investments across sectors such as trade, manufacturing, and information and communication reflects the multidimensional nature of international economic relations.

In the global investment environment, the economic opportunities offered by countries are increasingly complemented by effective investor communication, international business networks and relationships built on mutual trust. Engagement between diplomatic representatives and the business community is also becoming more valuable in creating new opportunities for cooperation and ensuring the sustainability of existing partnerships.

“WITHOUT TRUST, THERE CAN BE NO LASTING INVESTMENT”

Highlighting the importance of trust-based relationships in international investment, Sepehr Haddad, President of Prestige Diplomatique, stated:

“International investment decisions are not simply about numbers and financial opportunities. For business leaders considering investment in another country, establishing reliable relationships, connecting with the right stakeholders and building a foundation for long-term cooperation are essential. Capital may follow economic opportunities, but lasting investment requires trust. Diplomacy plays an important role not only in strengthening political relations between countries but also in advancing economic cooperation.”

NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR COOPERATION BETWEEN DIPLOMACY AND BUSINESS

Emphasizing the growing economic dimension of international relations, Haddad highlighted that direct engagement between diplomatic representatives and the business community can contribute to identifying and developing new opportunities.

“Today, international relations can no longer be evaluated solely through official meetings. It is equally important for business leaders, diplomatic missions and international organizations to develop a deeper understanding of one another in order to identify potential areas of cooperation. Strong communication networks make it easier for institutions and representatives from different countries to come together around shared objectives. At Prestige Diplomatique, we are committed to fostering dialogue between cultures, institutions and business communities.”

Bringing together representatives of diplomatic missions, international organizations and prominent figures from various sectors of the business community, Prestige Diplomatique continues its efforts to strengthen international communication networks through exclusive gatherings and events. The organization aims to enhance dialogue between diplomacy and business while encouraging the development of long-term relationships among representatives from different countries.
