Engineering Goods Sector Opens New Chapter in India-Egypt Economic Ties
India and Egypt are exploring new avenues to expand trade, investment and business partnerships in the engineering goods sector, as companies and industry representatives from both countries look to strengthen commercial ties and identify opportunities for long-term cooperation.
The discussions took place during a special webinar on engineering goods held on September 30, 2026, jointly organised by the Embassy of India in Cairo, the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers, the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), and the Engineering Export Promotion Council of India (EEPC India).
The virtual event brought together Indian and Egyptian engineering companies, industry representatives, consultants and other stakeholders to examine market opportunities and explore areas of mutual commercial interest.
Engineering sector emerges as a key area for bilateral cooperation
The discussions highlighted the potential for expanding India-Egypt economic cooperation across a broad range of engineering-related industries, including electrical equipment, building and construction machinery, aluminium, iron and steel, industrial products and related engineering solutions.
Addressing the webinar, Suresh K. Reddy, Ambassador of India to Egypt, highlighted India's expanding engineering capabilities and the diversity of its manufacturing and technology ecosystem. He encouraged businesses in both countries to build on existing commercial relationships while exploring new opportunities in trade, investment, technology cooperation and joint ventures.
The Ambassador also stressed the importance of closer engagement between Indian and Egyptian companies as both sides seek to identify areas where their respective industrial capabilities can complement one another.
From the Egyptian side, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Ghany, representing the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers, emphasised the importance of strengthening links between the engineering communities and business sectors of the two countries. He pointed to greater interaction between companies and professionals as a means of identifying opportunities for cooperation in expertise, technology and commercial capabilities.
India looks beyond traditional trade relations
The webinar also featured Vimal Anand, Joint Secretary at India's Ministry of Commerce & Industry, who underlined the growing role of the engineering sector in India-Egypt trade and business relations.
Anand described the current period as an opportunity for businesses from both countries to deepen their engagement and encouraged companies to move beyond traditional trade relationships towards sustained commercial partnerships, technology cooperation and other forms of long-term collaboration.
Arun Garodia, Chairman of EEPC India, meanwhile, highlighted the potential of the engineering sector to contribute to the further expansion of India-Egypt trade and economic relations.
He noted that Indian engineering companies have developed capabilities across a wide range of product segments and pointed to closer interaction among industry stakeholders, including through business expos, as a potential avenue for developing new trade and business partnerships.
Indian companies showcase capabilities to Egyptian market
The webinar provided Indian companies with an opportunity to present their products, technologies, manufacturing capabilities and engineering solutions to Egyptian stakeholders.
Participating companies represented several segments, including electrical equipment, building and construction machinery, aluminium, iron and steel and other engineering industries.
According to the organisers, the Indian companies expressed strong interest in exploring the Egyptian market and establishing business relationships with Egyptian companies, distributors, importers, contractors, consultants and other industry stakeholders.
For Egyptian participants, the event offered an opportunity to gain greater insight into India's engineering capabilities, while Indian companies gained a better understanding of market requirements and potential opportunities in Egypt.
Focus on business-to-business engagement
Beyond trade in goods, discussions during the webinar focused on mechanisms that could support deeper and more sustained business engagement between the two countries.
Participants highlighted the importance of continued business-to-business interaction, the exchange of market information, participation in trade fairs and exhibitions, and the establishment of direct commercial contacts between companies.
The Embassy of India in Cairo, EEPC India, the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers and the Federation of Egyptian Industries reaffirmed their commitment to facilitating greater interaction between Indian and Egyptian businesses.
The initiative reflects a broader effort to create platforms through which companies from both countries can move from identifying areas of interest to developing concrete opportunities in trade, investment, technology cooperation and long-term industrial partnerships.
A platform for the next phase of India-Egypt business cooperation
The engineering sector's broad industrial base makes it a significant area for potential cooperation between India and Egypt. The September 30 webinar brought together public institutions, industry organisations and private-sector representatives with the aim of translating commercial interest into greater direct engagement between businesses.
For Indian engineering companies seeking opportunities in the Egyptian market, and for Egyptian businesses looking to engage with India's manufacturing and technology ecosystem, such platforms could provide a channel for developing new commercial relationships and expanding existing ones.
The webinar therefore served not only as a forum for showcasing Indian engineering capabilities, but also as a platform for identifying potential areas for the next stage of India-Egypt economic and industrial cooperation.
