India Leads Global Celebrations for 11th International Yoga Day 2025 with Unprecedented Participation

The 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY 2025) was marked by an extraordinary global celebration on June 21, featuring over 2,000 yoga events across 191 countries. The day powerfully reaffirmed yoga’s universal message of wellness, peace, and unity. Spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the initiative continues to showcase India’s leadership in advancing holistic health and traditional wisdom on the world stage.

Within India, participation reached remarkable levels, with over 13.04 lakh yoga events registered on the Yoga Portal by June 20. This overwhelming nationwide response highlighted the country’s deep-rooted commitment to yoga and its growing significance in public health and well-being.

A landmark highlight of IDY 2025 came from Visakhapatnam, where two Guinness World Records were set. The city hosted the world’s largest yoga gathering at a single venue, with an astounding 3.02 lakh participants. Additionally, on June 20, 22,122 tribal students performed the largest mass Surya Namaskar demonstration, marking a proud moment of inclusion, discipline, and cultural unity.

The Ministry of Ayush, in partnership with various government bodies and local authorities, organized fifteen iconic yoga demonstrations at culturally and geographically significant sites across India. These events were thoughtfully curated to showcase the richness of India’s heritage, while also reinforcing the connection between yoga, national pride, and the country’s natural beauty.

In collaboration with the Geological Survey of India, twelve yoga sessions were conducted at prominent Geological Heritage Sites renowned for their scientific, ecological, and cultural importance. Notable locations included Rahioli Dinosaur Fossil Park in Gujarat, Bhimbetka Rock Shelters in Madhya Pradesh, and Arwah-Lumshynna Cave in Meghalaya, among others. These events emphasized the profound connection between yoga and Earth’s natural history, embodying the theme “Yoga for All, Yoga Everywhere.”

The Ministry expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to making IDY 2025 a historic global celebration of health, resilience, and unity. It emphasized that yoga is not merely a practice but a living tradition that continues to inspire generations across continents, fostering harmony and well-being worldwide.
