PM Modi Reinforces India’s Chip Power at Semicon India 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took center stage at Semicon India 2025, reaffirming the government’s strong commitment to making India a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing and innovation. The three-day conference, held in New Delhi, brought together global tech leaders, investors, and policymakers to spotlight India’s emerging role in the world semiconductor landscape.
During the high-level CEO roundtable on Wednesday, PM Modi directly engaged with top executives from leading global and Indian semiconductor companies. The discussions focused on accelerating investments, fostering innovation, and building strategic partnerships to advance India’s chip ecosystem. Modi assured the industry of consistent policy support and infrastructure development to ease manufacturing and innovation in the sector.
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister described semiconductors as the “digital diamonds of the 21st century” and called for India to become a trusted and resilient player in the global supply chain. He emphasized that India’s vast talent pool, growing tech ecosystem, and government-backed incentives make it one of the most promising destinations for semiconductor businesses worldwide.
A major highlight of the conference was the presentation of India’s first fully indigenous 32-bit processor, named ‘Vikram’, by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. PM Modi hailed the achievement as a symbol of India’s self-reliance and innovation, showcasing the country’s ability to design and produce advanced chips domestically.
Modi reiterated the government’s vision of creating a full-stack semiconductor ecosystem—from design and manufacturing to testing and packaging. He urged global companies to see India not just as a market but as a long-term innovation and manufacturing partner.
The Semicon India 2025 summit serves as a key milestone in India’s broader strategy to reduce dependence on imports and become a central node in the global semiconductor supply chain. With strong political will, rising domestic capabilities, and growing international interest, India is positioning itself as a serious contender in the global chip race.
